The Choir began life in 1989 as an Adult Education Class of 15 members, taking its name from The Sir Joshua Reynolds Centre in Plympton St. Maurice where it met.

Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, increasing in size (average 50 members) and status, under the capable direction of Jenny George, herself an established singer in the Plymouth area. She is ably assisted by accompanist Anne Kalas.

In a conscious and successful effort to attract wider audiences, ‘The Josh ‘ no longer concentrates on presenting solely choral and other kindred works. It now gives a series of three different programmes every year.

At the appropriate time there is a Christmas Concert – always a sell out. The major choral works can be heard in the springtime, often in celebration of Easter, and, by way of complete contrast, the summer/autumn season sees the Choir in a somewhat lighter mood with a programme of light classics, excerpts from the musicals, popular songs, even some jazz numbers, often interspersed with the odd comedy item.
